The 1st comp. in Chicago area
since 1993. We’ve had big XC’s in this date range, and hope for good
weather for a generation of area pilots that haven’t seen a comp. We are
75 minutes south of Chicago with potentially great flying in most wind
conditions
Meet Purpose
To have a safe, fair and fun hang gliding
competition. We hope to draw a lot of
new pilots into the competition family and have the meet in the best of
the season’s flying conditions. We plan a cross country competition
where there will be "race to goal" or "open
distance" tasks called, as the weather permits. Education to
elevate pilot skills is a key principal.
Our plan is for a 20 pilot field. If there is
REALLY big interest we would attempt to bring in outside launch gear and
pilots. We will support Open, Sport
and Rigid divisions in scoring.
There are some pilots flying on 'the circuit'
who have ties here along with some regional guys who have done
significant competition whom we hope to have fly in the comp, so we hope
for a good mix.
This comp is weekend
pilot friendly. We are flying Thursday
through Sunday with a possible makeup day
on the holiday Monday (May 31). Pilots do not
have to take a week off work.
We plan to have
seminars and tasks in the weeks leading up to the comp to educate
pilots in GPS usage and other task oriented skills.
